“Lockchain (1-out-of-n locks)” by Yuri Pattison at the Kunstverein in Hamburg

As part of the group exhibition “Proof of Stake - Technological Claims” held at Kunstverein in Hamburg, Yuri Pattison is presenting “Lockchain (1-out-of-n locks)” 2021, a chain of padlocks, each with an individual key, placed across the entranceway to the show. Here, the chain acts as a material analogue to the cryptographic keys required to access the blockchain. It also alludes to restrictive access to cultural spaces. Padlocks are symbols of security (cf. computer privacy icons) but as technologies of ownership, they’re also tools of exclusion.

The exhibition “Proof of Stake – Technological Claims” reflects on themes of technology, organization and ownership. It will remain on view until November14th, 2021.
