Until January 14th, the work "Set" (2017) by Étienne Chambaud is featured in the group exhibiton “Stories of Stones”, curated by Jean de Loisy & Sam Stourdzé at Villa Medici, Roma.
This work belongs to a series in which the artist alters found stones with pyrite inclusions. These naturally occurring rectangular forms are carved with individual dots, reminiscent of the markings on dice. The subtle alteration gives the impression of a much larger human intervention, questioning our assumptions about the relationship of organic and human made forms.
