Starting today, September 1st, the work “3000 HOLES OF 180 X 50 X 50 EACH. Dehesa de Montenmedio. Vejer de la Frontera (Cádiz), Spain. July de 2002.” by Spanish artist Santiago Sierra will be participating in the XI Bienal de Arte Lanzarote, as part of the group show 'Bienes ocultos', curated by Carlos Delgado Mayor and Adonay Bermudez at the MIAC – Museo Internacional de Arte Contemporáneo de Lanzarote.

On a lot facing the coast of Morocco, 3000 holes were dug with parallel and perpendicular sides. The work was performed by a group, fluctuating between 20 and 7 day laborers, depending on the day. They were African workers, most of them Senegalese, some of them Moroccans, plus a Spanish foreman. The work was done with shovels and lasted one month. The workers charged the salary for day laborers stipulated by the Spanish administration: 54€ for 8 hours work.
