Santiago Sierra at the MAVI (Chile)
The works in this exhibition interrogate the crisis that the idea of progress is currently undergoing.

Starting April 30th, Santiago Sierra will participate in the group exhibition “The Way Things Go” at the MAVI (Chile) with the work “Burned Word” (2012).

This work was performed in El Cabanyal, Valencia, a traditional fishing town that has been fighting for years against the speculative plans of the city council. The project was conducted in collaboration with the neighborhood association.

The works in this exhibition interrogate from social, political, and economical points of view the notions of precariousness and instability, as well as the crisis that the idea of progress is currently undergoing. The show features Latin-American and European artists from different generations, such as Kader Attia, Darío Escobar, Carlos Garaicoa, Eugenio Merino and Teresa Margolles, whose works talk about collapsing and becoming, complex forms of social balance, transitions, memory, and the uncertain future.
