Starting this Saturday, March 25, Héctor Zamora will be showing his work “Senhora do Cabo” as part of the Ordem e Progresso exhibition at the Ilhavo Maritime Museum in Portugal.
The artist will present one of the seven boats that were destroyed within the framework of the exhibition and performance Ordem e Progresso, held in 2017 at MAAT Museum (Lisbon) (Lisbon). The ship, the only one to have been preserved as a work of art, will be presented alongside the documentation and other works from to this project.
In addition to evoking the historical and cultural memory of the Portuguese maritime-fluvial heritage, the project also reflects on the environmental impact and socioeconomic consequences resulting from the disappearance of artisanal fishing, due to the growth of the fishing industry. The issue of maritime culture in Portugal raises an endless number of political, economic, social and cultural questions that extend to the refugee crisis and the anti-migration policies decreed by some European nations. In this context, the ship is also the symbol of the migration crisis in the Mediterranean
