Ría - Jorge Satorre

February 1st - August 31st, 2025

In February 2025, the Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo Museum will present "Ría", the first solo museum exhibition of Jorge Satorre's work in Spain. His art focuses on uncovering hidden stories and local traditions. Though he started as an editorial illustrator, Satorre's work now combines drawing with sculpture, often responding to the places where his work is shown. His recent projects involve transforming materials though basic actions like molding, printing, forging, melting, or breaking. He sees these processes as essential to developing his ideas.

"Ría" will show works made between 2013 and 2025. During this period, Satorre's work on finding the right balance between his artistic forms and their references. He also looked inward, questioning how personal experiences relate to broader cultural, political, and social contexts.

The exhibition will come with a book about Satorre`s work his first. It will include writing by Daniel Garza Usabiaga (Director of the Museum of Fine Arts in Mexico City) and Sean Lynch (an artist from Ireland), plus a conversation between Satorre and the exhibition curators, Latitudes. The book will be in both Spanish and English, designed by artist-editor Gabriel Pericás with Satorre, and published jointly by the CA2M Museum and Caniche Editorial.

The exhibition will be on view until August 31st, 2025.
