Jan Peter Hammer participates in "Anatomy of Political Melancholy," an exhibition curated by Katerina Gregou at the Athens Conservatoire Odeion from 02/28/2019 until 04/13/2019 Hammer presents here is called The Jungle Book (2013-15), a single-channel video installation [colour, stereo 12']. The main focus of this group exhibition is the current state of contemporary politics, dominated by the interests that drive politicians on one side and the effects of this phenomena on citizens and their civil consciousness. Anatomy of Political Melancholy is a collective exhibition featuring twelve artist whose work expresses different aspects of our current political discontent and disillusionment as well as it explores its effects on different generations. The works exhibited highlight the dangers of political apathy and underline the fact that there are still such things as society and community, trying to offer a picture of present condition and suggesting at the same time possible solutions for the future. Its title was inspired by the text “Small Anatomy of Political Melancholy” by the philosopher Lieven de Cauter, who defines this sense of disillusionment “political melancholy”.
