Next Wednesday, September 1st, 2021, the exhibition “Irene Kopelman. Amarillos” [Irene Kopelman. On Yellows] curated by Juan Canela, will open at Medellín Museum of Modern Art (Colombia).
This project emerges from the artist’s interest on the history of color, understood as a means of categorization for scientific research. In order to consolidate her analyses, Kopelman has traveled and participated in residencies in natural territories in which a given color prevails over the landscape, establishing her own color scales and formal observations that then give rise to the works developed in her studio.
The artist's fascination with yellow came from the discovery of a rich variety of places on this color’s scale, as well as their intriguing similarities with the surface of other planets. For this project at the MAMM, the first phase of the work will be presented: the research made by Kopelman at the Ochre Canyon in Famatina (Argentina). The exhibition will feature a series of drawings made in this territory, as well as an array of paintings and a ceramics sculpture inspired from them.
