Opens at the Kunsthaus Baselland this Friday 25, " El Gran Grito" is the graduation group show of the Institute Art Gender Nature of FNHW, where Claudia Gutiérrez Marfull did her Master in Fine Arts.
The Chilean artist presents "Restos en trance", a work that arises from the investigation of the illegal textile landfill in the Atacama Desert, Chile –one of the most arid territories of the planet, that for years has housed one of the largest illegal textile dumps in the world. There, millions of kilos of new and used clothing and textile waste from Europe and the United States are deposited, buried and burned annually, causing an incalculable social, sanitary and ecological disaster.
"This piece mixes embroidery and clothing with multiple materialities, seeking to represent a geological cut of the desert. It establishes connections between the temporary and the permanent, the indispensable and the recyclable, recognizing that, for the existence of developed, intact and trash-free territories, marginal and secondary places that harbor loss and waste are needed."
