Starting this Thursday, June 6th, Hector Zamora’s project “Chimera” will be on view at the MAZ (Zapopan). Zamora's work happens from the identification of global issues and research of local environments. This action replicates the dynamics of Mexican informal commerce through a group of street vendors selling bunches of metallic balloons that will be on sale at different points in Zapopan during the inauguration. Carried out in the desert of the Coachella Valley (US) and the avenues of Lisbon and Faro (Portugal), “Chimera” inhabits for the first time a permanent space, floating in the museum hall as an installation.
The balloons take the form of words that evoke the idea of chimera in relation to the American dream. Through their mirage and monumentality, they invite us to recognize a figure that from anonymity constitutes a pillar of the economy. Their presentation in Zapopan allows us to think about migration and the exchange of objects as a constant negotiation of identity and ways of life within a system that turns everything into merchandise.
