LABOR is pleased to announce Interval, the first solo show of Roger White in Mexico.
Roger White (1976, Salem, OR) work focuses in facts —perceptual facts, experiences of space and color, and concrete aspects of material reality— through fictions. The paintings in the show are about the everyday, and the senses of time and space which accompany that domain of experience. Roger White thinks of images in the paintings as having been pulled from the deep background of the quotidian, and offered up to the viewer for consideration. Perhaps counter-intuitively, he thinks of them as historical.
Considered now, the quotidian is subject to different sets of tensions. The everyday, as a category of experience, appears to us as fractured by the integration of information technologies at the granular level of life, and pressurized by the array of interlocking catastrophes into which we’re currently passing. Interior space is turned outwards; rhythm becomes arrhythmia.
Roger White lives and works between Middlebury, VT and Brooklyn, NY. He graduated from Yale University (B.A) and studied his M.F.A. at Columbia University. He has developed as a painter and writer, he is also co-founder of the art journal Paper Monument.
